The history of Oslo Congress Centre

1885

The labor movement need a common meeting place and The People’s House is established.

1900

The construction starts.

1907

The People’s House is finished and opens December the same year. It was written that “The dedication on Sunday, December 8, 1907, was a wonderful celebration. The hall and gallery were filled to the last seat, and the conversation was lively and cheerful down the rows of chairs.”

1930

Over time The People’s House become too small and many wish for expansion of the house.

1940

The People’s House is occupied during the war and the plans for expanding are postponed.

1947

The house is back on Norwegian hands and the plans to expand continue.

1957

The People’s House from 1907 is demolished and a new house is opened, but construction projects and property purchases continue.

1989

The entire block is complete, included a new congress centre after a larger reconstruction of the entire house.

2001

The People’s House change its name to Oslo Kongressenter Folkets Hus BA and the restaurant venue is finished.

2002

The Auditorium sees the light of day.

2006

We begin a five-year long refurbishment project of the whole Congress Centre.

2011

Rehabilitation is needed after the devastation of July 22, 2011.

2013

Oslo Kongressenter Folkets Hus AS is established 15th of January 2013.

2014

The Congress Hall gets a new ceiling, new light rigs and is upgraded.

2017

Upgrading of meeting room wing and reception.
